How to Change a Fuel Injector in Your Land Rover and What Is a Fuel Injector?

WHAT IS A FUEL INJECTOR?

A throttle valve opens when you press on the gas pedal, which allows air to enter the engine. When this happens, the engine control unit(ECU) reacts and increases the amount of fuel entering the engine. Sensors ensure that the air-fuel ratio is constant and the amount of oxygen in the exhaust is according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.

Fuel injectors are land rover parts that are small in size. Their primary function is to spray fuel directly into the intake manifold near the intake valve of a diesel engine. The fuel pump supplies it with pressurized fuel and when the injector is energized, an electromagnet atomizes the fuel to a fine mist so it can ignite easily in the engine. The amount of fuel supplied is determined by how long the fuel injector is open, which is controlled by the ECU.

The fuel injector is mounted on the intake manifold so that the spray is in direct contact with the intake valves. To ensure the correct amount of fuel is sprayed, the ECU uses land rover parts like a coolant temperature sensor, engine speed sensor, mass airflow sensor, oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor, and voltage sensor

HOW DO YOU KNOW YOUR FUEL INJECTOR HAS TO BE CHANGED?

  • Fluctuating Power:

If your vehicle is revving irregularly or the RPM gauge is fluctuating, this may mean that your fuel injector needs to be thoroughly cleaned. A dirty fuel irrigation system or a worn-out fuel injector causes the engine to receive the inconsistent amount of fuel, thereby affecting performance.

  • Misfiring:

If your vehicle misfires on ignition? Then it could be another sign that your fuel injector needs to be cleaned as it may be clogged or is unable to open.

  • Bad Odor:

The smell of fuel means that there is a leak which can be either due to a crack in the injector seal or a valve not closing.

  • Low Fuel Economy:

If you notice a decrease in fuel economy, your fuel injectors may be worn out and need to be changed. Worn-out injectors burn more fuel to maintain the required performance output.

HOW TO CHANGE THE FUEL INJECTOR IN YOUR LAND ROVER?

If you decide to change the fuel injector on your own without the assistance of a mechanic, then you don’t have to worry since it is a straightforward process.

First, make sure the engine is cold and then take out the fuel pump and run the engine to get rid of the pressure from the fuel rail. After that, remove the fuel injector and clean it. Once the cleaning is done, reinsert the fuel injector.
